Hooked on Phonics Sale

Thanks to Surviving the Stores, I learned about this great Hooked on Phonics Sale!

I took advantage of the following two deals:

Learn to Read Pre-K – on sale for $19.95 (usually $64.95)
Hooked On Spanish – on sale for $19.95 (usually $64.95)

But it gets better! I signed up for CashBaq (earning $5.00 just for signing up) and then used code "CASH50" at checkout to get an additional 50% off my order. Plus, I'll be getting another 10% of the order total put into my new Cashbaq account. The $5.00 sign-up bonus and 10% back will more than pay for shipping and processing.

If you're interested, sign up for CashBaq (It's free!) and then select "Hooked On Phonics" from the drop-down menu of stores. Don't forget to use the "Get 50% off your order!" code when you place your order.

What a deal!

Update on Walgreens Deals (06/10 & 06/11)

In my plan for the $5 off $25 purchase coupon, I stated that I planned to pay for my purchases with $12 RR from last week, bringing my total out of pocket to about $9.00; however, I neglected to do what I "always" do to figure out the actual out of pocket after coupons and before RR! (How embarrassing!)

So, in actuality I paid $13.96 out of pocket after RR from the previous week (which thankfully scanned with no problem!) and the last $8.24 from my Easy Saver Rebates Gift Card. And I did get $18 RR in return.

Dove Soap was $2.61 per 2-pack (not $2.24 as I had hoped), adding $2.96 more to the grand total. But the store gave me some wonderful free samples and honored the rain check for the free Aveeno Travel Bag.

So, all in all, it was a fairly good trip.

$5 off $25 purchase Walgreens Coupon (06/10 & 06/11)

See more ideas (with coupon match-ups) at Surviving the Stores.

Here’s what I’m hoping to do…

Mars Candy Bars – $0.50
Use weekly ad coupon
Stack with B1G1 coupon (RedPlum 05/17) (expiring 06/13/09)
$0.25 each after coupon
(I have two coupons, so I’m planning to repeat this deal.)

Buy three All Detergents – $4.49 each
Get $5.00 RR
Use $1.00/1 printable coupon
Use $0.40/1 printable coupon
$2.02 each after coupons and RR

Buy three Kellogg’s Cereals – on sale three for $10
Get $3.00 RR
Use $1.00/1 coupons (RedPlum 06/07)
(And one printable coupon that will otherwise expire tomorrow!)
$1.33 each after coupons and RR

Buy eight Dove Soaps (2 packs) – $2.24 each
Get $10 RR
Use $1.00/1 coupons (RedPlum 05/17 or 06/07)
$1.87 each (I have only three coupons!)
(If you use eight coupons, you could make $0.08!)

Don’t forget the Walgreens rule: Number of coupons per transaction (including RR) cannot exceed number of items purchased. Since I don’t have coupons for five Dove Soaps, those items unaccompanied by coupons will help compensate for double coupons on the Mars Bars – and hopefully allow me to pay for half of my purchases with $12 RR from last week, bringing my total out of pocket to about $9.00!

Pull-Ups Deal at Target (starting next week)!

If you find yourself among those disappointed by the Cancelled Pampers Deal at CVS this week, take heart! You can print $3.00/1 coupons (limit two per computer) and get ready for a great deal on Pull-Ups at Target next week.

Go here for details.

CVS!

CVS is getting mixed reviews this week. Active participants on the frugal blogosphere are well aware of the disappointment of their cancelled Diaper Deal. (And I'm among those disappointees!)

Admittedly, deals at CVS have not been spectacular lately – but it's still a great place to shop. I'm always pleased, for example, when CVS gives the grocery budget a needed boost, like they did last week with FREE Campbell's Soup!

Campbell's Soup – on sale two for $1.00
I had two $1.00/2 printable coupons that were about to expire and needed a deal to be redeemed!
And I brought home four cans of FREE soup!

Remember the Great Colgate Deal? Thanks to CVS promotions, I got the travel bag (full of goodies!) and coupon booklet for free! And I've been able to use all but four coupons so far! (They all have an expiration date of 06/30/09 on them.)

I used one of those deodorant coupons just last week for this deal:

Lady Speed Stick Deodorant – $2.49
Get $1.00 ECB
Use $1.00/1 coupon (from Colgate Deal)
$0.49 after coupon and ECB

And good deals this week include:

Gillette Fusion Razor – $7.99
Get $4.00 ECBs (Limit 1)
Use $4.00/1 coupon (P&G 06/07)
FREE after coupon and ECBs

Buy two Dawn Dish Soaps – $1.00 each
Get $1.00 ECB (Limit 1)
Use two $0.25/1 coupons (P&G 06/07)
$0.25 each after coupons and ECB

Since the diaper deal was cancelled, I returned the pack of diapers. (I did not qualify for $5.00 ECBs because I had not made my purchase by 10:00 yesterday morning.) I did get a full refund (part cash, part gift card) with no problems.

And speaking of gift cards, two weeks ago my CVS honored a Rite Aid Promotion as a competitor's coupon and gave me a $25 Gift Card for filling a $7.00 prescription! Gotta love 'em!

Update: Diaper Deal at CVS!

Attention, local readers! According to the frugal blogosphere, at least three CVS stores in town are still honoring the Pampers Diaper Deal:

CVS on (or near) Hudson Rd.
CVS at North Pleasantburg Dr. (291) and East North St.
CVS at Wade Hampton Blvd. and Suber Rd.
(I just returned from the Suber Rd. location with three packs, including EasyUps, and $15 ECBs!)

There's a great diaper deal at CVS this week!

Update: Unfortunately, CVS decided to cancel this deal, changing the ad on their website. However:

If you made your purchase before 10:00 on Monday morning, you can call the toll-free number on your ExtraCare Card and request the $5.00 ECBs per pack.

Or you can find a local store that is still honoring the deal.

Pampers Diapers (all Jumbo sizes) – on sale for $8.99
Get $5.00 ECBs (Limit 3)
Use $1.00/1 coupon (P&G 06/07)
$2.99 each after coupon and ECBs

Since the deal is not included in the weekly ad, it's probably a good idea to take a print-out of the ad with you to the store. (The iheartcvs website has a link here to what the CVS website ad looked like on Sunday.)

Hurrah for store managers who prize good PR at CVS!

Yard Sale!

What do you do with all that extra loot you bring home from bargain shopping at pharmacies?!

  • You obviously use some yourself.
  • You save some for later.
  • You give some to your family and friends.
  • And you sell some at a yard sale!
We did so today – and found the toiletries to be a great attraction and money-maker!

(A big "Thank-you!" to CVS, Walgreens, and Rite-Aid!)

Our three-year-old made her very first purchase today, too. Her Daddy seized a teachable moment, and she very happily chose this little guy for a quarter from her bear bank. (He's not a piggy!)

Walgreens Deals – 05/31 thru 06/06

Thanks to Jenny at Southern Savers for posting the details!

I’m excited! I started with $11.50 in RR, went to two stores, used a $3 off $10 purchase coupon Walgreens mailed me, and came home with all these goodies for only $3.15 out of pocket – plus $12.00 more in RR!

First store:

Lindsay Olives – $0.99
Use in-ad coupon
Use $1.00/2 printable coupon
$0.49 each after coupons

Chinet Plates (10 or 15 pack) – two for $3.00
Use $1.00/1 coupon (SmartSource 05/03)
$0.50 after coupon

Second store:

Revlon Hair Dryer – on sale for $12.99
Get $10.00 RR
$2.99 after RR

Ecotrin Tablets (45 count) – $2.00
Get $2.00 RR
Use $2.25/1 printable coupon (may be adjusted down to $2.00)
FREE plus $2.00 overage after coupon and RR

Plus, more olives – a family favorite!

I may also try another store for the following deal:

Cutter Advanced Insect Repellent – $2.00
Use $2.00/1 coupon (SmartSource 05/31)
FREE after coupon

Remember a Walgreens rule: Number of coupons per transaction (including Register Rewards) cannot exceed number of items purchased. I obviously had to add in some “filler items” (nine packs of five binder dividers on clearance for $0.25 each) in order to be able to use all my RR (expiring today)!

I did have a bit of trouble with one coupon making the register beep at the first store and then not posting; the manager had to void the whole transaction and start over. At the second store, the $10 RR for the hair dryer didn’t print initially, and I was told it was because I was paying with RR! But a manager scanned another dryer (pictured in the ad), and it also rang up for only $12.99! The $10 RR printed, too – and I left the store very happy!

I’m thankful for cheap olives (a family favorite!) and a basically FREE name-brand (worldwide dual voltage) travel hair dryer! But I can’t resist saying it: If you’re a bargain shopper, Walgreens is another reason to love CVS!
